Cagayan de Oro Press Club (COPC) president Vincent Jaudian who also visited Labares at the hospital immediately condemned the shooting. He said the COPC will conduct separate investigation to help the police identify the suspects.

Initial police investigation disclosed that since last year Labares has been hitting the operators of illegal video machines in the city until she receive threats of his life this year.

As a chief of reporters of the radio station who regularly attacks illegal video karera operators, Labares was instrumental in the raids of various illegal video machines and even linked some policemen that are allegedly in cahoots with the illegal video machine operators.

The police said this is possibly the motive of the shooting of the broadcaster yesterday while on his way home.
